this reminds me of my dad…
Hi my friend,
I’ve always been a firm believer that words are like bullets. Once they are out, you can’t put them back.
Maybe…
That darn car cut you off on the highway
You spilled hot coffee on your new suit or blouse on the way to work and said a few choice words
You said something in the heat of the moment to your significant other or child that you wish you could take back
It’s so easy to speak your mind without taking just a few seconds to think about how we should respond.
This week’s quote is pretty special to me. I choose it in honor of my late father’s birthday. He used to say this ALL the time to me and my siblings—so much that it became a common soundtrack in my mind.
To this day, I can still hear his gruff but sweet voice saying, “Remember Jamie, engage the brain before putting the mouth in gear.”
So powerful, right? I know we all make mistakes and that's okay.
Sometimes we think we don't have the power to change a situation—but we actually do with the words that we choose.
Here’s your action step today, my friend:
Next time you feel frustrated or irritated at the world or people around you, take a moment to breathe. And then think through a wise way to respond (one you won’t regret and that your future self would be proud of!). 😉
Your words are powerful. I want mine to build up the people around me—and I know you want the same thing too!
Let’s engage our brains before putting our mouth in gear. 🧡
With love,
Jamie
